Broadband Internet Access
VSAT Technology
VSAT Technology
VSATs are small earth stations (normally 1.4 - 2.4
meters) that are utilized for reliable transmission of data, voice and fax via
satellite. VSAT Terminal Equipment consists of two units - an indoor unit and an outdoor
unit.
The outdoor unit is placed outdoors for a line-of-sight to the satellite and the
indoor unit interfaces with the user's communications device (e.g. data terminal
equipment). The outdoor unit consists of a small antenna, mount and electronics
for signal reception and transmission. The indoor unit consists of a satellite
modem and demodulator(s) and a network access device to interface with data LANs
and PBXs.
The VSAT Network could operate in a STAR or MESH
arrangement with the satellite bandwidth being dedicated for each remote link
analogous to a leased line and this arrangement is known as "Single Carrier Per
Channel" (SCPC) Configuration. This type of configuration is used in continuous
streaming data applications.
The Advantage of VSAT Network
- A VSAT Network can be provided through a lease arrangement with fixed
transmission costs regardless of distance. This provides for substantial
communication cost savings.
- The user retains complete control of the way information is communicated
within the network. This generates flexibility, particularly where new VSAT
sites need to be added, or existing sites need to be moved or removed from the
network.
- High availability and excellent transmission quality is provided by the
VSAT Network. VSAT Networks also guarantee the highest performance levels
(99.5%) among all communication alternatives.
- VSAT Networks provide fast data transmission for POS applications to
improve customer service.
- VSATs can be installed anywhere the business has a site irrespective of
the terrestrial communications infrastructure.
- VSAT Networks offer - a single vendor for equipment service, installation
& maintenance of the entire network.
- VSAT Networks offer superior flexibility and performance. Adding a site is
quick and easy, and higher network availability levels are easy to obtain.
- VSAT as a broadcast medium supports business objectives to
improve
customer service and quality. Reliable data broadcast, audio broadcast for
in-site music and video broadcast for sales training are all available on a
single platform.
- Prices of VSAT Networks compete favourably against terrestrial
alternatives including dial-up. The costs are predictable and stable.
- VSAT Networks can be secured with VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) using
industrial strenght encryption
VSAT Services
VSAT solutions enable your business to connect any number of
locations around the world, via satellite. Our satellite services support all
line protocols and a wide variety of applications for data, voice and video
transport.
Core services, such as teleport access, terrestrial capacity
and satellite capacity can be bundled with your choice of one or many of our
solutions to deliver reliable, point-to-point or point-to-multipoint solutions,
right to your door.
VSAT Applications include:
- LAN-to-LAN connectivity between a central office and numerous remote sites
for e-mail transfer, database applications and more
- Videoconferencing between any number of designated offices, via satellite
or terrestrial backbone network
- Multicast delivery of customer data, files and audio/video program streams
from a central office to a customer’s remote sites or between remote sites
- Broadband Internet connectivity between customer remote sites and the
Internet Backbone
- Streaming Video/Audio
- Voice over IP (VoIP) connectivity between customer remote sites and its
central office
- Termination and origination of Voice (VoIP) minutes between customer
central office and its remote sites or to the PSTN
- VPN secure connectivity between customer main office and remote sites
- Wireless Local Loop or last mile distribution of customer bandwidth where
existing infrastructure is non-existent, inadequate or prohibitively expensive
